Child Enrichment Programme

“You can’t change the world, but you can change someone’s world.”

Start the friendship of a lifetime

When you sponsor a child, you embark on a journey you’ll never forget – to support a child, family and community through all life’s challenges.

Did you know?

Only 40% of Kibera’s children are in school on any given day, mostly due to an inability to pay fees, buy uniforms, or provide necessary school supplies.

Why is this an Enrichment Programme and not a Sponsorship Programme?

Whilst the programme does, in general, raise the funds needed for the provisions of that programme, there are no individual ‘pots’ of money for each of the sponsored children. Instead, all donations go into one general fund.

This is because every child is an individual and ‘costs’ a different amount of money each month. For example, some children require more medical care than others. Some live at the Future Stars Development Centre and therefore need more meals than others. As the level of education increases, costs for this education also increase meaning younger children do, in general, have lower education costs than older children.

Instead of asking our sponsors to continually change the amount of their donation, we selected an average amount of £30/month.

Can I choose which child I would like to sponsor?

Absolutely!

If you see a child in our gallery who you are particularly drawn to, please note the name and fill it in on the form at the bottom of the page. We will do our best to ensure you can sponsor that particular child but will notify you if this is not possible eg. if the child has left the programme or has already been sponsored and we have yet to update the gallery. We know it can be very difficult to select a child to sponsor. If you like, you can leave this decision to Chaffinch. The form at the bottom of the page allows you to select a few options for age and gender or you can leave it as a completely free choice and we will allocate the child deemed to be the highest priority

Can I sponsor a child at Future Stars or Bornstar?

Currently our Child Enrichment Programme only includes children from the Future Stars Development Centre. This is because there are a lot of logistical considerations when setting up such a programme and it’s not something the staff at Bornstar currently have the capacity to handle. As we have worked with Future Stars for much longer, we have been able to establish this programme over a period of time as the centre grew.

How are children identified for support through sponsorship?

A Sponsorship Coordinator at the Future Stars Development Centre works alongside a social worker to identify the children most in need of this kind of support. Chaffinch is then notified of these different levels of priority.

A child might become a priority if

  • they are an orphan, under the care of extended family or friends
  • they have been classified as being at high risk of abuse or neglect, or have already been removed from the family home and are perhaps living at Future Stars
  • they come from a single-parent household
  • there are family problems with alcoholism or drug use
  • they are part of a family living in the most extreme levels of poverty despite the hard work of the adult(s) involved
Where does my money go?
Your sponsored child is guaranteed:

  • A quality education
  • Reasonable medical costs
  • Emotional support
  • Adequate nutrition
  • But your money goes a lot further, benefiting all of the children at Future Stars through support of the feeding programme, the primary school, and the rescue centre.

Read the sponsorship policy here.

What do I receive?
  • Sponsorship card with photograph and the child’s details.
  • Letters, drawings and videos from your sponsored child several times a year.
  • Year-end summary with an updated photograph.
  • The opportunity to communicate with your sponsored child.
How long do I sponsor for?

No minimum period of sponsorship.
Sponsor for six months or a year or even until the end of their education.
We appreciate however long you choose to support one of the Future Stars children.

When I first started sponsoring Tashley she sent me scribbles. Now she sends a picture of a house and writes her name. Whatever her next achievement is I will be with her all the way.

Child Sponsor

I decided to sponsor Samuel after seeing updates from Chaffinch about an ongoing medical condition he had, and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

I love receiving his letters and drawings and to see how he’s grown, not only in strength but confidence too. Every time I see him his cheeky smile seems to get bigger and bigger! Not to mention his love of dancing!

I’d definitely recommend sponsorship through Chaffinch as it really does make a difference, not just to the child but to you! I’ll continue to help Samuel and Chaffinch and look forward to seeing him grow and develop into his future.

Don’t hesitate to set up sponsorship, it’s simple and easy and I promise you, you won’t regret it!
