In a place where quarantine and social distancing is impossible, and where people face a choice between risking working or starving, this virus could, and likely will, spread quickly with devastating consequences.
At Future Stars, the emphasis is on washing hands regularly and keeping the centre as clean as possible. That, and prayer, will hopefully keep the children and staff safe.

Keeping the centre clean
Even in the ‘old world’, the children and staff spend time thoroughly cleaning the centre. Now, all surfaces are cleaned with a locally-made soap solution containing both soap and bleach.
Improved hand washing
There’s a new hand-washing station at Future Stars. Here, it’s possible for two people to wash their hands, using clean water and bar or liquid soap.
The waste water is collected in the tub beneath and this can then be used to clean floors and latrines.
All of the children and staff at Future Stars are being encouraged to wash their hands frequently and with plenty of soap.

Soap Appeal
All this additional cleaning and hand-washing means more soap and cleaning solutions needed. Also, prices are increasing as demand also rises. For example, liquid hand soap has seen an increase in price of over 35%.
We really need your help to ensure we can fund these additional items that could be the only thing standing between the staff and children of Future Stars, and a devastating spread of the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19.
We understand that funds are tight for many living in countries that have, to a large extent, shut down. We appreciate every single donation made.

Where will my money go?
As detailed in our Donations Policy, funds raised by the special “soap appeal” will be spent on the purchase of additional soaps to combat the spread of COVID-19. If we raise more than is needed for soaps, any further donations will be added to our general funds.
I read about Kibera in my local newsletter when a lady called Sarah was asking for hard to recycle waste. I live in the Acomb area of York, as I assume Sarah does and I am collecting for her. Please can she contact me so that I can pass on my collection.
Thankyou
Myra.
