On July 11th, school at the Future Stars Development Centre will see the start of a new term. We need your help to ensure that as many children as possible can have the basics they need to take advantage of the education on offer.

What do they need?

  • Exercise Books;
  • Pens & Pencils;
  • Uniforms;
  • Shoes;
  • School Bags.

How much does it cost?

The cost varies a little depending on the age of the child and the class they are joining. Typical costs are:

  • A full school uniform including shoes: £25;
  • A school bag: £10;
  • A term’s stationery for lower primary: £2.50;
  • A term’s stationery for upper primary: £5.50;
  • Sanitary towels to keep a girl in school for a term: £5.

How can I help?

A one-off donation will make a big difference, allowing us to purchase the items needed for more of Kibera’s poorest children.  Starting at just £2.50, you will see the impact you make as the children begin the new school term on July 11th.  If you choose to check the box to make the donation quarterly, you will ensure ongoing provision for every new term throughout the year AND a treat at Christmas.

Alternatively, why not consider the Chaffinch Child Sponsorship Programme, which ensures a specific child can have all of their basic needs met on an ongoing basis.

Does my donation really do what you say it will?

YES!
If you donate today to purchase a school uniform, a school uniform will be purchased.
If you donate today to equip a child with the exercise books and pencils they need for a term of lower primary, we will equip a child for a term.

Chaffinch is a small charity able to provide a clear connection between money donated and the items that money purchases. Our overheads are currently approximately 2%, meaning that almost all of your donation can be used for the item you desire.

Gift Aid

Gift Aid It!UK taxpayers: Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows Chaffinch to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that every £1 you donate becomes £1.25, at no extra cost to you!

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like Chaffinch to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Chaffinch will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Chaffinch receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
